AS Vita Club has claimed victory in the Democratic Republic of Congo derby at the FIBA Women’s Champions Cup against I.N.S.S.
Vita beat its national rival 78-43 in the quarterfinals to qualify to its maiden semifinal berth at the continental competition.
AS carried its winning momentum from the last group stage game win over FAP Basketball from Cameroon to the big matchup and extended the winning run.
Veteran Center Ortice Kabobo recorded a 21 point, 11 rebound double double to lead Vita to the win and said,
“From the onset, we wanted to win this game and make it to the Semi-Finals We know CNSS (INSS in English) from the league back home an there was absolutely no way we were going to allow them to beat us. I am happy with this win today” to FIBA.
Home side Ferroviario Maputo beat Kenya Ports Authority 73-40, while Nigeria’s First Bank survived a scare to beat FAP 69-66 and record winners Interclube of Angola clinched an 84-46 win over Madagascar’s MB2ALL.
