Debutants in the GSP Basketball League have made a sterling start to life in the top division in Ghana’s Brong-Ahafo Region a month into the new season.
The 2018-2019 season has three new teams -Young Boys, Techiman Merchants and Spartans- participating for the first time.
The trio is on solid ground after Week 4 with Spartans leading the way in second place in the ten team standings with seven points; only Suncity Braves have more points (8).
Prior to the just concluded round, Spartans had won all three games in the league. The team lost 11-22 to Sunyani Technical University (STU) in a hard fought game at the Eusbett Court in Sunyani.
Young Boys ranks third in the league with seven points from winning three of four games with its last win being a 72-27 victory over Barracks Scorpions.
The win moved the side up from fourth and ahead of Desert Rabbits who dropped to fifth following a 26-40 loss to Suncity Braves.
Merchants is the lowest ranked side of three tree (8th) with a win three in four games narrowly missing out on a second win due to a 41-46 loss to LIR Royals.
