Nigeria’s National Basketball Women’s Team-D’Tigress- emerged big winners at the Nigeria Sports Awards held in Lagos recently.

The team’s brilliant run in this year’s FIBA Women’s World Cup propelled the team’s success on the big night for Sports Athletes in the West African nation.

Nigeria became the first African country to reach the World Cup quarterfinals which was held in Tenerife, Spain in September.

Forward Evelyn Akhator added to D’Tigress big night by taking home the Sports Woman of the Year Award after a big run in Spain leading the team in scoring.

Captain of the Male National Basketball Team (D’Tigers) Ike Diogu missed out on walking away with the Sports Man of the Year Award despite leading the team to the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

The next global tournament takes place in China next year and Nigeria became the first African country to book its place in the competition.

Table Tennis star Aruna Quadri won the award beating Diogu and Footballer Ahmed Musa in the race.
