The 2018 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division II commenced with ten teams battling for places in the Division I next season.
However, following the conclusion of Week 3 games, Teshie Rangers withdrew from the division indicating financial and roster challenges as reasons behind the withdrawal.
At the time of withdrawing from competing in the league, Rangers had lost all three games including a 56-101 defeat to Tudu Galaxy where the side ended the game with just two players on the court due to foul trouble.
Following the official statement regarding the team’s withdrawal, it has emerged players attitude towards training was a reason behind the withdrawal.
“The Junior Team is mainly handled by Samuel Teye, He does the coaching and organizes the training sessions for the Junior team. He coached the team in 2017 D2 league. In his opinion the lads don’t turn up for training which made him take the decision to withdraw the team from the league to serve as a deterrent for the lads. His statement was simple- How can you play a league if you don’t train” in a letter penned by Captain Wisdom Tsorgali.
Teams get a win via forfeiture against Rangers this season.
