Africa’s flagship club competition will have more teams participating in its next edition than it has in previous years with 12 clubs.

The number of participating teams has increased from 12 to 16 as part of sweeping changes to the tournament as part of initiatives to boost the competition.

Previously known as the African Champions Cup (ACC), the competition has been renamed AfroLeague in time for the upcoming edition in January next year.

Qualifiers started in September and runs through till December across various zones on the continent; Africa has seven zones and several West African nations play in Zone 3.

The 16 teams will be divided into four groups where the top two teams after round robin system of games are completed make it to the Elite 8.

Members of the Elite 8 are sub divided into two groups where home and away games are used to determine teams that make it to the Final Four prior to the Final Games.

Morocco’s Association Sportive de Sale are defending champions.
