Nungua Coldstore has grabbed the opening win in the 2018 Tema Community Basketball League thanks to a 75-65 victory over Tema Community 2.
The game took place at the Tema Community 4 Court before a packed venue as the 2016 League Champions strolled to the ten point victory.
The win moves Coldstore closer to another league finals series. A second straight win in the best of a three game series qualifies Coldstore to the next round.
Big shots beyond the arc from Shooting Guard Joy Ofori was key in a 45-20 Coldstore lead at the end of the first half. Nungua Forward Gerald Sappor scored four straight points in the third quarter but Kwame Attafuah drained a three point shot to make the score 53-27.
Emmanuel Wolff buried all three shots from the free throw line after getting fouled on a three point attempt to give Coldstore a 63-42 lead in a quarter which ended 66-44.
Kofi Attafuah scored back to back layups, Coldstore’s Kofi Agyei buried a shot from deep and Yaw Afrifa delivered a behind the back pass for Kwame Attach to score a fastbreak layup. Nungua led 75-60 midway through the final quarter and held on for the win.
