Coach of Opoku Ware School’s Basketball Team Alexander Obeng Takyi has fingered poor preparation as the main reason behind his team’s poor display at this year’s Sprite Ball Championship held in January.

He made the statement ahead of the final round of qualifiers in the Ashanti Region for the next Sprite Ball due to be held in early January at the El-Wak Stadium in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

The qualifiers will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Senior High School in Mampongteng; Sprite Ball is Ghana’s biggest High School Basketball Tournament.

Despite winning the December 2016 edition, Opoku Ware School (OWASS) failed to defend its title as the team crashed out at the group stage.

Speaking in an interview on Kwese Free Sports’ “Courtside” program, Takyi pointed out ill preparation as the reason for his team’s poor showing. He said:

“For the last competition, we did not get our house in order and our preparation wasn’t the best”.

OWASS is in the running for national spots with a bevy of strong contenders including bitter rivals Prempeh College and Kumasi Anglican Senior High School.
