Cape-Verde will compete at the 2018 FIBA 3X3 African Championship in Lome, Togo from November 9 to November 11 in what will be the island country’s maiden trip to the continental tournament.

The island nation joins the likes of Nigeria, Egypt, Uganda, Mali, Benin, Ivory Coast and host Togo to battle for the title which aids in the qualification for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Despite featuring in the standard format’s elite competition on the continent-African Nations Championship (AfroBasket) – in 2015 and 2017, Cape-Verde had missed out playing in the 3×3 version.

However, veteran Guard Fidel Mendonca has stated his team isn’t fazed by the daunting challenge ahead as newcomers in an interview with FIBA.

“Cape Verde enters all the competitions with an ambition to win. We know very well our strengths and our weaknesses. We know that we are going to face very strong and experienced teams. This is our first participation in this continental showdown and we want to make a decent appearance to dignify our flag” he said.

Ghana’s Female side will play in the competition.
