LIR Royals opening game in the 2018-2019 GSP Basketball League against Sunyani Technical University (STU) was postponed due to rain.
The game had to be cancelled due to torrential rain that hit Ghana’s Brong-Ahafo regional capital, Sunyani over the weekend.
Royals-STU’s matchup was the final game in Week One of the new GSP season which had four previous games honoured at the STU and Eusbett Court. The next course of action regarding the game is yet to be communicated.
With three quarters played, Royals led 36-20 with Evans Henneh registering eight points and two assists, the rains brought proceedings to an abrupt halt.
The league has three new teams playing this season; Spartans, Techiman Merchants and Young Boys are making their debuts in the burgeoning league.
Spartans beat Barracks Scorpions 33-14, Merchants lost 21-37 to Young Boys and defending champions Suncity Braves topped CUCG Saints with a 44-28 win.
Royals and STU have been mainstays in the division since its inception four seasons ago with Royals ending in the top four.
