Defending GSP Basketball League Champions Suncity Braves have won its maiden game of the 2018-2019 season in Sunyani.
The team clinched a 44-28 win over Catholic University College, Ghana (CUCG) Saints in the opening week of the new campaign over the weekend.
Braves’ Abdul Latif top scored in the game with 20 points with Edward Abugri adding nine points and two assists in the winning effort.
Saints’ Harry Gauther paced his side with 17 points and six rebounds but it proved not enough against last season’s champions.
In the remaining games, Desert Rabbits topped West Siders with a 35-22 winning performance with Dennis Sam registering seven points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.
New boys Spartans beat Barracks Scorpions 33-14 in the opening game of the season at Sunyani Technical University (STU) Court. Games played later on the day were at the Eusbett Court.
Techiman Merchants walked away from the clash against fellow newcomer Young Boys with a 21-37 loss but the final game of the round did not conclude.
LIR Royals held a 36-20 lead over STU before heavy rain forced officials to call off the game.
