Central African Republic’s Senior Male National Basketball Team must win all three games in the next round of FIBA 2019 World Cup African qualifiers to stand a chance of progressing to the main event.
This is according to the Republic’s Point Guard Yannick Zachee who made the statement ahead of the games set to be played from November 30 to December 2 in Luanda, Angola.
Central African Republic (CAF) is third in Group F behind already qualified Nigeria and second placed Senegal. CAF has 13 points and Senegal has 16 points.
Only three slots are available for nations on the continent to play in China next year after Nigeria and reigning African Champions Tunisia sealed qualification in the immediate past round.
Speaking to FIBA prior to the start of the qualifiers, the 6 foot 3 inch player was direct about his team’s objectives going in:
“I think Senegal can get their ticket. They will do everything to get a win. So, they are not our main obstacle. For us it’s simple, we need to beat all the teams present in our group”
Angola is second in Group E and expected to qualify.
