San Antonio Spurs first year Center Chimedzie Metu has stated he is ready to play at next year’s FIBA World Cup in China for Nigeria.

The former University of Southern California player who was drafted 49th in this year’s Draft made his intentions to play for the West African nation on the backdrop of his dual nationality.

Born in California, Metu spent a significant number of years in Nigeria before moving back to the United States and eleigible to play for either nation.

Nigeria’s Senior Male Basketball Team recently sealed its place in China ahead of the next round of qualifying games winning all games.

Speaking to BballNaija after Spurs 2018-2019 NBA season opener against Minnesota Timberwolves, Metu said:

“One hundred percent, yeah! I’ll be there next year at the World Cup. It was just a matter of timing. I know they have me listed as American, but I’m Nigerian one hundred percent”.

Spurs beat Timberwolves 112-108 but Metu did not play in the game.
