Basketball Coordinator of Not for Profit organization Giants of Africa (GOA) Michael Akuboh has stated having the right coaches to teach young players is crucial to the development of basketball in Ghana.
He made the statement in an interview with members of the press after rounding up GOA’s Camp third camp in Ghana this past weekend.
The Camp was organized in partnership with mining firm Golden Star Resources in Prestea which is the first camp to be organized outside Ghana’s capital, Accra.
Akuboh was weary without the right coaching, players grow up with the wrong basics which affects their overall play in the sport.
“That is where it all starts from no matter how much these kids want to play, if they don’t have the right people to teach them it’s basically a waste of time because by the time they get to the next level, they don’t have the requisite skills, knowledge and understanding of the game to excel” Akuboh stated.
Prior to the Camp, a coaching clinic was organized with Local Coordinator Neequaye Kotei and Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA) Vice Chair Iddrissu Ayambire headlining the event.
