The opening game of the 2018 Tema Community Basketball League between Nungua Coldstore and Akatsi Rifles concluded with a clear dominant side.
2016 Champions Coldstore run away with a comfortable 73-38 win over Rifles to take a 1-0 lead in the three game series earlier tonight at Tema Community 4’s Court.
Rifles looked out of place in the fixture as the side stepped in late to replace Ashaiman Lions who pulled out of the postseason few days prior.
Coldstore took a 35-16 first half lead after a poor start from Akatsi Rifles. Nungua continued its fine form to end the third quarter leading 52-24 highlighted by slew of well timed passes from the likes of Kontor Appiah and Cyprian Adusei.
Coldstore Forward Gerald Sappor delivered the game’s highlight by slamming a put back dunk. Both teams traded three point shots early in the final quarter but Rifles went cold later in the quarter.
Coldstore continued to find success from deep with Kwame Boamah Djan scoring two rare three point shots to win. Rifles Guard Cecil Edem converted two shots from the three point line in the final quarter. Game 2 takes place at the same venue on October 21.
