Golden Star Resources Corporate Affairs Manager Gerard Boakye has pointed out sustainability is the reason behind the mining firm’s decision to construct a recreational center.
The Center was constructed to coincide with this year’s Giants of Africa (GOA) Camp held in Prestea over the past weekend where 54 young players participated in the program.
Two basketball courts were constructed at the site of what used to be a rubbish tip in the mining town and the edifice will be used as a recreational site following the conclusion of the camp.
Speaking at a press briefing earlier today, Boakye stated:
“If you know Prestea very well, that site was a rubbish tip…we first of all reclaimed it but we believe in sustainability. So the idea for a recreational park came up just then GOA was celebrating their 15th anniversary this year, we thought could we do something together so at a very high level priority function…the idea of coming back to Ghana was hatched”.
He added Golden Star Resources is interested in partnering GOA for at least two more camps.
