Mining firm Golden Star Resources have imprinted on Prestea’s landscape by funding the construction of two basketball courts which will serve as recreational grounds for the community.
The new edifice was constructed as part of the company’s partnership with Giants of Africa (GOA) for this year’s GOA Camp taking place in Ghana’s Western Regional town.
This year’s GOA Camp commenced on Friday October 12 and is due to end on Sunday October 14; it is the third edition in Ghana and the first held outside the West African nation’s capital city, Accra.
Building the edifice forms part of Golden Star’s corporate social responsibility to one of its operational base according to Corporate Affairs Manager Gerard Boakye.
In an interview on basketball program “Courtside” which airs on Ghana channel Kwese Free Sports, he stated:
“We turned a rubbish tip into constructing two basketball courts…We have a social responsibility to the youth in the catchment areas”.
The facility will be used for the camp and future basketball related programs to develop the sport. GOA aims at developing talented players on the continent into driven leaders and players.
