The number of African countries to approve basketball world governing body FIBA’s Development Program is just one country short of ten.

Nine countries on the continent have agreed on to roll the tenets in the three part program that has a couple in line to be implemented next year.

Basketballghana.com can confirm Cameroon, Mali, Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo are the latest to join the fold taking the number to nine.

Prior to the recent round of approval, Rwanda, Senegal, Kenya, Ivory Coast and Uganda had committed to implementing the program.

High powered delegations representing the various countries including Cameroon Sports Minister Biduong MpKatt and Jean Claude Sidibe of Mali met with FIBA Africa National Federations’ council President, Jean Michel Ramaroson.

The first phase of the program ends in December this year with the 11 countries set to benefit from elite coaching sessions and equipment.

The next phase involves marketing, communications, administration and finance is slated for 2019 with the final phase due in 2020.
