African Women’s Basketball Champions Nigeria has been paired against World Champions United States of America in the quarterfinals of the FIBA Women’s World Cup in Tenerife, Spain.
Nigeria takes on USA in the first quarterfinal game scheduled for jump ball at 10:30 GMT in one of four top clashes in the competition.
The West African nation is the continent’s sole representative competing in the Championship after Senegal exit following a 48-63 loss to Spain.
Nigeria progressed by clinching a tough 57-56 win over Greece for its third straight win in the tournament after suffering a 68-86 win over Australia.
Four players on D’Tigress roster scored in double digits with Evelyn Akhator registering 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
USA has been imperious in the tournament winning all four games and beating the likes of China 100-88 and Latvia 102-76 to top Group D.
USA is seeking a record extending sixth straight World Cup title and is tipped by many to win this year’s competition.
The competition ends on Sunday, September 30.
