Toronto Raptors General Manager Masai Ujiri has stated Nigeria’s Women’s National Basketball Team has to win ahead of the team’s participation in this year’s FIBA Women’s World Cup.

The competition tips off today in Tenerife, Spain with 16 nations competing including Africa’s two representatives, Senegal and Nigeria.

African champions Nigeria nicknamed D’Tigress is in action today against Australia in Group B before taking on Turkey and Argentina.

Senegal is in Group D with USA and China; Africa is seeking to have its first run to the latter stages of the competition after failing to do so in previous editions.

Speaking to KweseESPN, Ujiri who represented Nigeria as a player before moving into management said, “D’Tigress have to win.

“Hey, you have to win in sports. Sports is all about winning; you compete and you grow and you learn from all the experiences but at the end of the day, winning is what you must do.”

Nigeria replaced Coach Vincent Sam with former Sacramento Kings Assistant Coach Otis Hughley weeks before the competition.
