Navy Warriors proved it is battle tested for the CAP 7 Memorial Basketball Tournament by coming out of an absorbing fixture against Tudu Galaxy with a 34-30 win.
The Lebanon House Court in Tudu hosted the matchup and that of Ghana Fire Service game against Galaxy in the Women’s Division; Fire lost 34-38.
Warriors had clinched impressive wins over Tema Youth and Teshie Rangers in the lead up to the game and went on to extend its winning streak in the competition.
On Day 3, Galaxy lost 42-44 to Tema Youth and following the team’s 32-41 loss to Rangers, the home side is still winless in the tournament which ends on Saturday, September 22.Warriors has a big chance to compete in the final game.
Raymond Affram of Galaxy scored a deep three point shot and delivered a beautiful pass to Abdul Razak who applied the finish. Razak scores a jumper. Emmanuel Sarkor scored one of a pair of free throws for Warriors as his side trailed 5-10 at the end of the first quarter.
The physical nature of the first quarter run through the remainder of the fixture going a long way to explain the low score recorded.
Warriors scored nine straight points in the second quarter to tie the score at 14 with 6:28 remaining. Sylvester Asirifi drained a three point shot and Nana Tuffour converted on a layup to tie the game. Warriors clinched a 17-16 first half lead
Both teams traded baskets with Galaxy’s Bajigah Mohammed scoring four points to make the score tied on 20. Warriors scored late on in the quarter to lead 30-23
Galaxy went on a strong run to tie the game at 30 but a beautiful pass from Mando found a cutting Tuffour for an easy layup for a 34-30 Warriors lead Warriors preserved to end as victors.
