Ghanaian-Italian Small Forward Awudu Abass is in line to feature for Italy in a 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifier against Poland later today.
The 6 foot 7 inch Forward born to a Ghanaian father and Nigerian mother in Italy, is on Italy’s roster for this weekend’s round of European qualifiers for a place in China next year.
He joins headliners like Gigi Datome and Brian Sacchetti on the Azzurri’s roster that plays Hungary after taking on Poland.
Abass featured for Italy in a friendly game against Russia with the latter earning an 87-80 win over the latter in Hamburg, Germany.
Washington Wizards Guard Tomas Satoransky and former NBA Forward Jan Vesely were instrumental in the win registering 14 points and 10 assists and 19 points and eight rebounds respectively.
Abass was one of three Italian players to score double digits as he registered 13 points in the loss; Datome scored 14 points and Sacchetti scored 17 points.
Abass picked Italy over Ghana and was on Italy’s European Under-20 gold medal winning team in 2013.
