Senegal Forward Astou Traore has joined the West African nation’s training camp ahead of this month’s FIBA Women’s World Cup.
This year’s World Cup will take place in Spain from September 22-30 and 16 teams are set to participate in the competition held every four years.
Senegal will represent Africa in the tournament with Nigeria; Nigeria qualified as African Champions ahead of record African winners Senegal.
High scoring Forward Traore joins a 15 woman roster prior to the team’s departure to France later today to intensify training for the competition.
Senegal and Nigeria have been put in tough groups in the group phase; Senegal plays defending champions USA, Latvia and China.
Coach Cheikh Sarr noted the threat opposing teams carry in his interview with FIBA where he stated:
“These are very athletic teams that know how to run and shoot. We have prepared against teams of the similar caliber”.
