Three gold medals in three African juvenile Championships highlight Mali’s dominance on the continent over the past year.

The West African nation has swept all before it in juvenile tournaments played in 2017 and this year with the latest being a gold medal win at the FIBA Africa Under 18 Championship.

Mali who doubled as host piped Senegal 78-76 win in the final game to secure its maiden continental title in the division.

The host nation will compete at next year’s Under 19 World Cup with Most Valuable Player Award winner Siriman Kanoute leading the charge.

On August 19, Mali’s Under Female side won the African title in Mozambique to secure a seventh title with Guard Assetou Sissoko winning the MVP Award.

In 2017, Kanoute led Mali to the African Under 16 title as he poured in 50 points against host Mauritius en route to a World Cup spot in Argentina earlier this year.

The Senior Male side is still in the running for a World Cup spot in China next year.
