Legon Guerillas representing University of Ghana (UG) has clinched the top prize at the maiden SWIFT Hoops 3×3 Basketball Tournament.
The Guerillas topped a 24 team roster made of sides representing various tertiary institutions in Ghana at the Aviation Social Center.
The Guerillas claimed a closely contested 11-10 win over Royals of Radford University College in the final game to end the tourney without losing a game.
In the lead up to the final, Guerillas dominated games from start to finish but had to battle from an uncompromising jerky start to pip Royals.
Made up of four of UG’s all conquering side over the past three years, Guerillas made their enormous experience count in crunch time.
By utilizing a bevy of free throws, the Legon side stormed back into the game tying the score at 10 with 30 seconds remaining in the contest.
For his irrepressible play in the competition, Joel Kwame Opoku was named Most Valuable Player and walked away with a new I Phone X and assorted items from Dalex Finance.
Guerillas earned a giant trophy, 4000 Ghana Cedis and Beats Headphones while Royals won 2000 Ghana Cedis, assorted items from Dalex Finance and Beat Headphones.
Hassan Bajigah won the Slam Dunk Contest with a flurry of dunks topped by his show stopping leap over a colleague to slam the ball home.
Gustav Mensah won the three point shooting contest.
