Nigeria Basketball Federation President Musa Kida has sounded off on the recent change at the head coaching position for the National Female Team-D’Tigress.
Kida stated there was the need to immediately fill the vacuum left behind by departed Coach Sam Vincent last week.
Vincent and the Federation parted ways and he has since been replaced with Otis Hughley who has prior coaching experience in the NBA as Sacramento Kings Assistant Coach.
Speaking in an interview with FIBA.com, Kida stated, “we needed to fill the vacuum immediately and continue our preparation for Spain…For many, parting ways with Vincent at this time was a difficult decision we had to take in the overall and long-term interest of the team”.
The African champions will play against Australia, Argentina and Turkey in the group phase in Spain next month at the FIBA Women’s World Cup.
The competition will run from September 22 to September 30 with Nigeria making a return to the grand stage since last featuring in 2006. USA is the defending champion.
