University of Ghana (UG) Male Basketball Team has qualified to compete in this year’s All Africa University Games taking place in Ethiopia.
The defending Champions have been in good form in the competition which features tertiary institutions from all over Africa.
UG opened its title defense with a resounding 57-9 win over Mekelle University and topped it up with 60-20 win over Welkirt University earlier this week.
UG leads Group B with the Mekelle and Welkirk Universities battling for the remaining qualifying spot in the group; two teams progress from each group.
The likes of Addis Ababa University of Science and Technology are in the running for a semifinal spot in Group A which has Addis Ababa University competing.
UG won the competition in 2016 with a big win over Midlands University from Zimbabwe when the biannual event was held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Ghana’s premier institution is aiming at adding another successful title defense to its extensive list of achievement in recent years.
UG has won the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship in Ghana for the past three years.
