The Greater Accra Wheelchair Basketball Association has been inaugurated with the big occasion taking place over the weekend in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
The big event attracted scores of people with Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation President Max Vardon in attendance.
President of Ghana Amputee Football Federation Reverend Adesah, Sam Arthur Chairman of the Greater Accra Association and President of Ghana’s Amputee League Board Dan Nii Mensah were present at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu.
Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister Elizabeth Tawiah Sackey was the Guest of Honour and made a significant gesture by sitting in a wheelchair.
In his address, President Vardon stated the event is “to serve notice that Wheelchair Basketball is on the move in Ghana in a way that will help engender a nationwide sense of Pride, Ownership, Acceptance and inclusion”.
Aside the inauguration, the maiden National Republic Day Cup due to be held in Ghana’s Volta Regional capital, Ho in July highlighted.
Ghana’s Wheelchair team-Black Chariots- have failed to participate in several international competitions due to lack of funds.
