Tema Youth have recovered from a shock loss to Adenta Leopards in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I by producing a big game performance to beat Navy Warriors earlier tonight.
The tie took place at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu and had Youth walk away with a 64-60 win despite playing the entire game with just five players.
The result was more gratifying considering the team came back from an 11 point deficit midway through the final quarter to score the big win.
Josiah Karikari scored the first points of the game with a three point shot. Jonathan Walker added another for Tema Team before Yaw Afrifa of Warriors got a three pointer of his own. Warriors Guard Sylvester Asirifie scored five points to end quarter including a three point shot; Warriors tailed 14-16 heading to the second quarter.
Ernest Kojo Ofori tied the score at 16 with layup and Yannick Kodia gave Warriors an 18-16 lead. Walker collected a long pass and drained a jump shot before the first half ended 26-27 with Warriors in the lead.
Cedric Nambi gave Tema a 38-27 lead and Brain Kwami extended the lead with a corner three point shot early on in the third quarter. However, Warriors fought back to tie score at 31. Warriors took a 42-32 lead but Karikari and Walker drained three pointers to close deficit to 43-44 but Warriors held on to win the third quarter 48-44.
Emmanuel Sarkor scored on a beautiful drive right before Kodia kept the ball alive for Forward Mando to score and stretch Warriors lead to 58-47 with 6:34 left. Tema then went on a 12-2 run to close score to 59-60 with 2:34 left.
Kwami scored one of two free throws to give Tema a 62-60 lead with 39 seconds left. Shooting Guard Kent Fosu drained two free throws and completed the comeback to give Youth a 64-60 win.
