Ex FIBA President Yvan Mainini has passed away aged 73 according to information gathered by Basketballghana.com
Mainini was elected as President of basketball’s world governing body in 201 and became its Honorary President in 2014 after his four year term as FIBA Head.
In the latter part of 2017, he stepped down from his role due to health problems until his demise in the early hours on Friday May 11.
FIBA President Horacio Muratore said, “This is a very sad day. I have lost a friend and a person that I looked up to, knowing that I was going to follow in his footsteps” to FIBA in an interview since the sad news broke.
In his term, the House of Basketball-FIBA’s headquarters- was built in 2013 and 3×3 Basketball got promoted to an Olympic discipline.
He was French Basketball Federation (FFBB) President from 1992 to 2010 before getting elected as FIBA Europe President from 1998 to 2001.
The French man left behind a wife and two children.
