Suncity Braves are the 2017-2018 GSP Basketball League Champions. The team clinched its second title in three seasons by beating LIR Royals 41-39 in the final round of fixtures at the Eusbett Court in Sunyani over the weekend.
Braves won the 2016 league trophy but got piped to the title by rival University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) last season.
However, UENR lost 39-41 in overtime to Desert Rabbits ensuring Braves topped the standings at season’s end.
Beating Royals ensured Braves ended the campaign with 26 points one ahead of UENR in second place; UENR is tied on points with Rabbits but rank higher due to a superior goal difference.
Placing third represents another step forward for Rabbits who ranked among the worst teams in the league a couple of seasons ago but. The team placed fourth last season.
Royals end the campaign in fourth place with 22 points and are followed by Sunyani Technical University (STU), Barracks Scorpions and CUCG Saints. West Siders ranked bottom in the division.
