Ghana Police remains unbeaten in the 2018 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I after clinching a crucial win over Reformers of Prison’s at the latter’s court earlier today.
Police beat Reformers 83-80 in the sole game in the division to win its third game in as many appearances this season.
The conclusion to an exhilirating contest proved to be controversial as Reformers Forward Mohammed Yakubu got fouled on a shot attempt he scored in the final seconds.
The potential three point play was cancelled as his attempt was deemed to have be made after the buzzer sounded to the dismay of Prisons.
After several minutes reviewing the incident, the call stood. The loss is Reformers third in four games this season.
Police Elvis Pobi Siaw and Emmanuel Dickson buried back to back three pointers to trail 40-42. Prisons then went on a nine point run with Ashietey Ollenu capping the streak off with a breakaway dunk to give Prisons a 51-43 lead with 4:52 seconds left in third quarter.
Team’s exchanged baskets before Benjamin Debrah tied score at 56 with 1:56 remaining. Debrah connected on a long pass from Dickson to give Prisons a 61-60 third quarter lead.
Philip Barley got Reformers off to an excellent start in the final quarter by scoring four straight points to give Prisons 67-60 lead in early minutes of final quarter. Debrah scored to give Police a 76-75 lead with four minutes remaining.
Police stretched the game’s lead to six by converting from the free throw line. However, Reformers fought back with Barley and Ollenu scoring to trail 80-83 but the home side could not force overtime.
