UG survived a big scare from KNUST (green).

Zone 5 winners Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
The 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship has ended with University of Ghana (UG) beating Accra Technical University (ATU) 41-36 in the final game.

The win gives UG its third straight title to become the most successful team in Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball competition.

However, UG’s unbeaten campaign was almost derailed by big rival Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) who had the biggest chance to score a win.

Missed free throws with regulation time over cost the side a win with the game tied at 26 in the quarterfinal game in Group A.

KNUST would go on to lose 29-37 and miss the semifinals; a similar loss to Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in the opening game.

KNUST missed several free throws in the early quarters against TTU to fall 35-36 which cost the side a spot in the semifinals.

A 47-32 win over Ghana Technology University College was a consolation for the team’s brilliant efforts for the 2015 silver medalist.
