After guiding University of Ghana’s (UG) Male Basketball Team to win the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship, Coach Dr. Baba Samori has pointed to his team’s preparations for the unknown as key.
He said this in an exclusive chat with Basketballghana.com hours after leading the team to clinch a third straight title.
The historic achievement takes UG to the summit of UPAC wins ahead of 2018 beaten finalist Accra Technical University (ATU).
UG beat ATU 41-36 in the final game this past weekend to clinch the trophy adding to the 2016 and 2017 UPAC Championships.
For his take on the successful campaign, he said, “we were prepared for every situation that we faced, the overtime game against KNUST and of course being down by seven at half time against Accra Poly (Technical). Almost everyday in practice, I put my guys into different situations so that when we get into the situations in the real game they are not new to us”.
UG beat KNUST 37-29 in overtime in the final quarterfinal game in Group A and overcame a 20-27 first half loss to ATU in the final.
