Senegal Center Gorgui Dieng has underlined the importance of the West African nation’s participation at the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
Dieng, who is in the middle of a first round NBA Western Conference Playoff matchup with Minnesota Timberwolves against Houston Rockets, is in line to play for his country later this year.
The West African nation missed Dieng’s service in the first round of Games in Group D which was played in Maputo, Mozambique due to NBA commitments. Senegal won two games but lost to Ivory Coast last year.
Senegal is preparing to host group games between June and July to claim a spot in the second round of qualifiers and a step closer to playing in China next year.
Being one of 32 teams to play in next year’s competition is a prime aim for the Forward/Center because of the immense importance of playing in the World Cup.
“We can do it and we absolutely have to do it to go to the Second Round with as many wins as we can get we’ve got to keep showing our talent and be playing in every international competition – World Cups and Olympics” he said in an interview with FIBA.com
