Akatsi Rifles delivered a big upset earlier today at Tema’s Community 4 Court in the second week of the 2018 Tema Basketball League season.
Rifles recovered from a 13-23 half time deficit to pip Tema Rockets 38-37 with the go ahead shot coming on the final possession in the game.
The Akatsi side looked out of sorts in the opening half of the game but picked up steam in the third quarter and completed the turnaround with seconds remaining on the clock.
Rifles reduced its deficit to five at the end of the third quarter but trailed by two with second left to play until an ill advised jump shot from Rockets Guard Humphrey ended up in Rifles hands and a three pointer sealed the big comeback.
The game was Rockets first in the 2018 season but the second for Rifles who lost 46-64 to Tema Community 4 in the opening week.
However, the one point win is Rifles first for the season. Three more games marked competition in Week Two.
Teshie Vikings beat Teshie Rangers 60-43, Tema Heat topped Tema Community 2 52-42 and Akatsi Rifles stunned Tema Rockets with a 38-37 win.
