After missing out on competing at the elite stage of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship, returning institutions pulled off good runs in the just ended edition.
University of Education-Winneba (UEW) ended this year’s competition in third place beating Takoradi Technical University (TTU) 46-35 in the bronze medal game.
Prior to the 2018 edition, UEW had not played in the knockout phase since placing second overall behind Accra Technical University in 2011.
UEW recorded wins over Sunyani Technical University (STU) and recorded the knockout phase’s biggest scoring mark in an 82-50 win over All Nations University College to make the semis before falling 48-66 to eventual winner University of Ghana.
While TTU placed fourth, it represents a marked improvement on the team’s performance in the 2017 edition where the Takoradi side failed to progress beyond the preliminary stage.
TTU won two quarterfinal games including a 36-35 over Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to make the semifinal. TTU lost 37-52 to Accra Technical University.
