University of Ghana (UG) has emerged winners of the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
The team’s latest title is the third straight in the UPAC competition following wins in 2016 and 2017 respectively before Saturday’s grand finale.
UG beat fierce rival Accra Technical University (ATU) 41-36 in the final of this year’s edition; in a rematch of the 2016 final game, UG repeated as winners.
UG recovered from a 20-27 first half deficit to tie the score at 31 at the end of the third quarter before clinching the win in the final quarter.
For Accra Technical, the loss marks another missed opportunity to clinch a third UPAC title after winning in 2011 and 2015.
ATU placed second and third in 2016 and 2017 before April 14’s final; they ended their latest campaign with a second silver medal.
University of Education-Winneba (UEW) marked its return to the elite stage by winning third place following a 46-35 win over Takoradi Technical University.
Takoradi Technical placed fourth in 2016.
