University of Ghana (UG) survived a gut wrenching game to beat rivals Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the 2018 UPAC Basketball Championship.
UG clinched a 37-29 win in the crucial Group A game that several heart stopping moments with Gustav Addo having a big chance to give KNUST a win with the game tied at 27.
However, the sweet Shooting Guard missed both free throws to send the game into overtime which UG easily won.
Prior to Addo’s misses, UG Guard Joel Kwame Opoku went through a similar challenge as he made one of three straight trips to the free throw line.
He bailed himself out with a string of good plays in overtime to see his side win its third straight game in the quarterfinals.
The win means defending champion UG ends the quarterfinals with a flawless campaign winning three wins in as many games.
On the other hand, the loss ends KNUST’s campaign in this year’s UPAC edition; last year, the team exited at this stage without any wins. KNUST beat Ghana Technology University College 47-32 on Day One.
