Owari in action for UEW.
Barley attacks the basket.

University of Education-Winneba (UEW) has clinched its first win of the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship quarterfinals.

UEW beat All Nations University College 82-50 in the opening game on Day Two of this year’s quarterfinal phase.

Matters remained quite close at the end of the first half with UEW leading 36-21 but a visibly tired starting All Nations unit got pummeled in the second half.

The win is crucial to UEW’s chances of progressing to the semifinals while All Nations chances of a semifinals berth looks all but done.

UEW Forward Benjamin Owari top scored for his side with 18 points but missed out on the competition’s first triple double adding 11 rebounds and nine assists.

Samuel Blankson and Jeffrey Djimate registered double digits with Blankson scoring 16 and Djimate adding 14 points.

Hard running Forward Philip Barley was the star man for All Nations scoring 23 points but Shooting Guard Elvis Pobi-Siaw continues to struggle thus far in the tournament.

The veteran Guard scored 11 points in the game and was largely frustrated; he played the entire duration for All Nations.

UEW plays Sunyani Technical University and All Nations play Accra Technical University next.
