The opening day of this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship knockout phase will be marked by a number of marquee matchups.

The 2018 UPAC knockout phase tips off today at the University of Ghana (UG) and is set to end on Saturday April 14.

Eight top tertiary institutions in Ghana have been placed in two groups with the top two sides in each group progressing to the semifinals.

A string of big games will takes place in the opening round of the quarterfinals as defending champions and host UG play Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) in the opening game in Group A.

This is a highlight moment for GTUC since the team is making its debut in the knockout competition after failing to do so in previous years.

In Group B a repeat of the 2011 Final game between Accra Technical University (ATU) and University of Education-Winneba (UEW) will be played out.

The ATU-then Accra Polytechnic- beat UEW to lift the first UPAC. This is UEW’s first appearance in the quarters since 2011.
