Day One of the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship knockout games tips off today at the University of Ghana (UG).

The three day basketball festival runs from Thursday April 12 to Saturday April 14 and features a host elite tertiary institutions basketball teams.

Defending champions and host UG take on Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) in the opening game in a tough Group A matchup.

This is GTUC’s maiden game in the first phase of the knockout phase; the team piped 2017 Silver medalist Marshalls University College to top Zone 7.

The third game of the day has two time winners Accra Technical University taking on University of Education-Winneba (UEW) in Group B.

Since placing second in 2011, UEW has failed to make it to the quarterfinals prior to this year’s edition. They did so by topping Zone 3; today’s game is a repeat of the 2011 UPAC Final Accra Technical won.
