The 2018 Tema Basketball League has tipped off at Tema’s Community 4 Court with four games honored at the league venue.
2017 Finalists Ashaiman Lions and Tema Community 4 walked out winners in the opening round with defending champions Community 4 registering a 64-46 win over Akatsi Rifles.
The game was the last of the four ties and had the host team clinch a second consecutive win over Rifles following a friendly game played days prior to the league encounter.
Lions on the other hand, were made to work hard for a 69-67 win over Tema Community 2; Ashaiman missed out on its second straight league title after falling to C4 in the 2017 Finals.
In a game that featured the league’s two new entrants, Teshie Vikings fell to Francophone Stars 45-58 in the first game of the 2018 season.
Francophone played in the league preseason and made the experience count by running away with a win over the Kingsley Quist-led side.
Tema Heat played in last season’s playoffs and managed to clinch a 51-47 win over Teshie Rangers.
