Senegal is one of two representatives from Africa to play in this year’s FIBA Women’s World Cup to be played in Tenerife, Spain.
The Lioness and Nigeria will represent the continent as they take on the world’s best in September as either nation looks to progress to a first quarterfinal appearance.
To stand a better chance of achieving that, Senegal is looking forward to inviting a host of foreign based players to complement locally based players during camping in August.
The foreign based players are expected to be headlined by Astou Traore, Maimouna Diarra and Yacine Diop.
Traore is an experienced Guard and played key roles in the West African nation’s run to the 2015 AfroBasket title and a silver medal last year.
Diarra played for Los Angeles Sparks in the WNBA last season, the Center played 20 games for the Sparks in her first rookie season.
Senegal is in Group D with USA, China and Latvia; the top two progress to the second round. Cheick Sarr, who guided Senegal to the second round in the 2014 World Cup, has replaced Moustapha Gaye as Head Coach.
