Defending UPAC Champions University of Ghana (UG) has qualified to the national stage of this year’s edition and will be in action from April 12-14.
The team secured qualification from the zonal stage by topping Zone 8 in this year’s Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
UG has won the 2016 and 2017 UPAC Championships and is aiming to win a third straight title which will be a first in the competition’s history.
UG hosted the games and produced three wins in front of its fans to best Central University, Radford University College and Pentecost University College.
UG beat Central 52-21, Radford 39-32 and Pentecost University 41-16 respectively to extend its unbeaten run in the competition.
The host team joins seven other zone winners from the preliminary stage in the elite stage with games set to be played next month.
UG joins the likes of arch rivals Accra Technical University and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology as qualified teams.
Ghana Technology University College progressed beyond the preliminary stage for the first time.
