Central (red) piped Radford University to clinch its first win.

Radford clinched a four point win over Pentecost University (green).

radfordRadford University College showed why it has been a consistent strong in Ghana’s Private University sect basketball competition at the University of Ghana (UG) during this year’s UPAC Games.

Team Radford competed in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges Basketball Championship for the first time ever.

Drawn in Zone alongside host and two time defending champion UG, Pentecost University College and Central University, Radford held its own.

Radford got its campaign off to a flying start by beating perennial competitor Pentecost 20-14 in the opening round.

However, Radford blew its chances in the subsequent games to fall 31-32 to Central and 32-39 to UG in respective fashion.

In the final game against UG, the Albert Sam led side missed several free throws which hurt them down the line and fell to a seven point run early in the final quarter.

Against Central, a poor first half cost the side a second win in the competition eventually dropping the game by a point.

UG topped the zone and progress to the national competition.
