Central University in last year’s competition.

Central (red) and Wisconsin competed in the same zone in 2017.
cenrCentral University has replaced Regional Maritime University in Zone 8 of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

Regional Maritime withdrew from the competition at the last turn giving Central University the chance to extend its run in Ghana’s most celebrated Tertiary basketball tournament.

Central has featured in previous editions of the Championship but has not progressed beyond the zonal competition.

The team will be attempting to qualify this time around in the fifth edition of the UPAC Championship to the national championship stage.

Only zonal winners qualify to the next stage which takes place from April 12-14 at the University of Ghana (UG).

Host UG is up against Central, Radford University and Pentecost University College for the zone’s top spot and a place at the elite stage.

The zone winner joins the likes of Accra Technical University, University of Education-Winneba (UEW) and Sunyani Technical University.

UG and Accra Technical have two won UPAC Championships each and both sides are looking for a third title.
