Thursday March 29 will forever be the day Radford University College marked its debut in Ghana’s most celebrated tertiary basketball competition-Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
Radford gets to feature in the renowned competition for the first time since since its inception in 2011; this edition is the fifth.
Despite featuring prominently in the Private Universities Sports Association Games basketball discipline over the years, the team has not done so in the competition that has all institutions of Ghana’s three tertiary sects competing.
Radford will be in action tomorrow at the University of Ghana (UG) against Pentecost University College, Regional Maritime University College and the host team.
A place in the next stage of the competition is up for grabs and only the zone’s winner gets the chance to play in the national competition.
While Radford is a debutant in the zone, the remaining members are not; UG have won the competition twice and Pentecost and Regional Maritime have played in previous editions.
Zone 8 is the final stop in this year’s preliminary stage before the national competition takes place from April 12-14.
