Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) has delivered the biggest shock of the ongoing zonal competition in the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
GTUC stunned Marshalls University College 16-14 to make it past Zone 7 in this year’s competition denying last year’s overall silver medalist Marshalls a spot in the national championship stage.
In the process of beating the much fancied side to top the zone, GTUC revenged a loss to the same side in this year’s edition.
Last year, Marshalls delivered a 29-16 win over GTUC to top the zone and secure passage to the next stage of the competition.
Marshalls would go on to the final before falling to University of Ghana (UG); the win meant UG retained the UPAC title after winning in 2016.
By beating Marshalls, GTUC progresses beyond the UPAC preliminary stage for the first time and is set to battle the likes of two time winners Accra Technical University in the national competition from April 12-14 at the University of Ghana.
