Ghana Technology University College has delivered the biggest shock in the preliminary zone of the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

The team beat much fancied side Marshalls University College 16-14 to clinch top spot in Zone 7 of the competition.

The loss is a major disappointment for Marshalls who placed second overall in last year’s competition falling only to University of Ghana in the final game.

For Marshalls Coach James Okine, exiting at the preliminary stage of the celebrated tertiary basketball tournament has derailed plans of a deep run in the Championship.

Prior to the Championship’s commencement, Okine opined his side had made extensive plans to go a step further than it did last year.

Recruiting veteran Guards Emmanuel Dickson and Benjamin Debrah to a deep roster to counter fatigue from the PUSAG Games was one of them.

In an interview on basketball television show, “Courtside” a few weeks back, Okine boasted Marshalls is concentrating on the latter stages and not even thinking about competition in the zone.

However, GTUC’s win has sent his side packing.
