Marshalls University College has won the opening game of Zone 7 in the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
The team beat Islamic University College 49-27 to get competition in the zone off to a good start with Marshalls living up to expectations as the favorite.
Islamic competing in the Championship for the first time started off well in the game with the likes of Point Guard Bajigah Mohammed catching Marshalls off guard with good plays.
At the end of the first half, the score was tied at 13 but Marshalls turned the tide around in the second half as Islamic’s naivety cropped up turning the ball over several times.
Veteran Shooting Guard Benjamin Debrah was key in Marshalls strong run in the half scoring a tough shot while crashing to the surface.
He picked himself up to connect a three point shot to give his side a 29-15 lead and kill off Islamic University’s threat.
Marshalls University placed second overall in last year’s edition.
